1. Major  Dhyanchand Khel Ratan Award

• The Old name of this award is Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratana Award.

• This award was started in 1991-92.

• This award was first given to Viswanathan Anand ( chess filed) 

• The prize money under this award is Rs25 lakh.

• The first woman to receive this award :-Karnam Malleswari (1995).

2. Dhyan Chand award

• Dhyan Chand award is the highest award given for lifetime achievement in the field of sports. 

• This award was started in the year 2002. 

• The winner of this award is given a statue of Dhyan Chand, a certificate, ceremonial dress and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.

3. Arjuna Award

• This award was started in 1961. 

• Under this award, a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh is given.

• It is given on the basis of the performance of the players in the last 4 years.

4. Dronacharya Award

• This award was started in 1985. 

• Under this award, the prize money is Rs. 15 lakh and a statue of Dronacharya is given.

5. Olympic Games

• The ancient Olympic were played in the Greek city of Olympia in 776 BC. For the first time these games were played in honour of the Greek god Zeus. After that, due to the orders of the Roman king Theodosius, the organization of the games was stopped.

• The modern Olympic Games competition started in 1896 in Athens, Greece, with the efforts of Pierre de Coubardin of France. it is organized every 4 years.

• The International Olympic Committee was established in 1894 at a place called Menschhon. Its headquarters is in Lausanne (Switzerland).

• The celebration of Olympic Day started in 1948. It is celebrated on 23 June.

• The first Indian woman member of the International Olympic Committee is Nita Ambani.

• The current President of the International Olympic Committee is Thomas Bach (Germany).

• The practice of awarding medals in the Olympics began in 1904.

• The male athlete who has won the most gold medals in a single Olympics is Michael Phelps of the USA.

• The woman who has won the most gold medals in the Olympic Games is Larina Lavya Nina.

• The first telecast of Olympic Games on TV was of Rome Olympic Games of 1960.

• Indian Olympic Council was established in 1924 and Sir J. R.D. Tata was its first president. The current president is P.T. Usha.

# Para Olympics

• Para Olympic Games is an international sports competition for the disabled. The Para Olympic Games were held for the first time in Rome in 1960. India joined the Para Olympic Games in 1968.

• Devendra Jhajharia has won a total of 3 medals in the Paralympics (2004-gold medal, 2016-gold and 2020-silver) in Javelin Three.

• Deepa Malik is the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic medal. (Won silver medal in shot put event in Rio 2016)

• India does not participate in the Winter Olympics.

Commonwealth Games

➡ The biggest sporting event in the world after the Olympics. These games are usually organized between two Olympic Games, which is called the Olympic Year.

➡ The Commonwealth Games started in 1930 in Hamilton (Canada).

➡ India first participated in the 1934 London Games.

➡ The next Commonwealth Games will be held in Melbourne, Australia in 2026.

➡ The first gold medal India won at the 1st Commonwealth Games was in 1958. This gold was won by the great sprinter Milkha Singh.

➡ Rupa Unnikrishnan became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

➡ India has won a total of 61 medals in the Commonwealth Games 2022. This includes 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals.

➡ It was organized in India in the year 2010.

Asian Games

➡ These started on 4 March 1951 in New Delhi. In 1982, India again hosted these games. India won 51 medals in the 1951 Asian Games, only Japan was ahead of India.

➡ The shining sun is the symbol of Asian Games. The 2018 Asian Games were held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

➡ The 2023 Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China, which were to be played in 2022.

➡ The 2026 Asian Games will be held in Japan.

➡ The 2030 Asian Games will be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

➡ The 2034 Asian Games will be held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Cricket

➡ England is considered to be its originator. The first test match was played between Australia and England in Melbourne (Australia) in 1877.

➡ The first one day match was played between Australia and England in Melbourne in 1971.

➡ The supreme body of cricket is ICC, which was established in 1909. Earlier its name was Imperial Cricket Conference. Its name was changed in 1956.

➡ The headquarter of ICC is in Dubai, earlier it was in Lords.

➡ BCCI is the supreme body of cricket in India. It was established in December 1928. The headquarter of BCCI is located in Mumbai.

➡ The first Cricket World Cup was held in England in 1975 and was won by West Indies.

➡ The first 20-20 World Cup was held in South Africa in 2007 and was won by India defeating Pakistan in the final.

➡ India played its first match against England in 1932.

Hockey

➡ Hockey is originated in England. The duration of a hockey match is 60 minutes. India holds the record of winning the gold medal in hockey for the maximum number of times i.e. 8 times. India won its first medal in 1928. India last won a gold medal in the Olympics in 1980.

Volleyball

➡ Its originator is USA. In volleyball, there are 6 players in each team.

➡ It was born in England. In 1857, the world's first football club Sheffield Football Club was formed in England. Football was brought to India by the British. The duration of this game is 90 minutes.

➡ The supreme body of football is FIFA, whose headquarters is in Zurich (Switzerland).

➡ The first World Cup of football was held in Uruguay in 1930 and Uruguay won it.
