• This lime gives information about Climate.
• The distance between two latitude is called zone.
• The distance between two latitude = 111km ( the latitudinal distance of 1° )
• Latitude forms a circle, the largest Circle is formed at the equator, The smallest circle is formed at the pole.
• This line is parallel.

• The imaginary lime Joining North pole and South pole is called Longitude.
• This line gives information Date & time
• The distance between two longitude is called Grid or Gore (Whiter)
• The distance between two longitude is not fixed.
• Maximum Distance on Equator 111.32km.
• Minimum Distance on pole = O km.
• This line is not parallel.
Greenwich Mean Time ( GMT )
• GMT is known as Prime Meridian.
• UTC (Coordinated Universal time) replaced GMT in 1972 as the time Standard.
• Royal Greenwich observatory in England is home of the prime meridian of the world.
or, 15° = 60 minutes
∴ 1° = 4 minutes
# Earth takes 4 minutes to rotate 1° longitude.
• Indian Standard time (IST) is 5:30 hours a head of GMT or UTC.
• IST is based on longitude 82½°, which passes through Mirzapur, near Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
So, 82½° longitude = 5:30 hours.
• Bombay time and Calcutta time-1906- Single IST.
• Indian Standard time passes through 5 states of India.
International Date Line
• Passing through Mid-pacific Ocean.
Equator
• It is an imaginary line on the Earth's surface equidistant from the North Pole and the South Pole
• There are 13 countries, 3 continents and 3 water bodies lies on Equator
• South America:- Equador, Columbia, Brazil
• Africa:- Gabon, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Sao Tome and Principe, Somalia.
• Asia:- Maldives, Indonesia and Kiribati (Oceania)
• Water Bodies:- Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean
Tropic of Cancer
• It is 23½° north of the Equator.
• It is the most northerly circle of latitude on the Earth at which the Sun can be directly overhead.
• There are 16 countries, 3 continents and 6 water bodies lies on Tropic of Cancer.
• North America:- Mexico, Bahamas (Archipelago).
• Africa:- Niger, Algeria, Mauritania, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Western Sahara.
• Asia:- Myanmar, Omen, Bangladesh, India, Saudi Arabia, China, United Arab Emirates, Taiwan.
• Water Bodies:- Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Taiwan Strait, Red Sea, Gulf of Mexico.
Tropic of Capricorn
• It is 23½° south of the Equator.
• It is the most southernmost latitude on the Earth at which the Sun can be directly overhead.
• There are 10 countries, 3 continents and 3 water bodies lies on Tropic of Capricorn.
• South America:- Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay.
• Africa:- Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar.
• Australia:- Australia
• Water Bodies:- Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean.
Mahi River:- it rises in Madhya Pradesh and, after following through the Vagad region of Rajasthan, enters Gujarat and flows into Arabian Sea.
• It is the only river in India that cuts the Tropic of Cancer twice.
Limpopo River :- The Limpopo River rises in South Africa and flows generally eastwards through Mozambique to the Indian Ocean.
• The Limpopo River is the second largest river in Africa that drains to the Indian Ocean, after the Zambezi River.
• The Limpopo River in Africa encases the tropic of Capricorn twice.
Zaire River:- The Congo River formerly also known as the Zaire River, is the second-longest river in Africa.
• It is also the world's deepest recorded river.
• it is the only major river to cross the equator twice.
